Iran Halts Part of Production at World's Largest Gas Field After Israeli Strike

Tehran, June 15, 2025: Iran announced on Saturday that it has partially suspended production at the South Pars gas field, the world’s largest, following an Israeli military strike. According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, an Israeli drone attack sparked a fire at the Fajr Jam refinery in the southern Bushehr province, forcing a temporary halt in some operations at the gas field.

Israel launched attacks on Iran’s military, nuclear facilities, and critical energy infrastructure, including the South Pars field, starting Friday. Israel claims the strikes aim to curb Iran’s nuclear program. Iran’s Oil Ministry confirmed the fire has been extinguished, but damage assessments are ongoing.

The disruption has raised concerns in global energy markets, as South Pars, jointly operated with Qatar, accounts for a significant portion of Iran’s gas output. Experts warn the conflict could drive up oil and gas prices and escalate regional instability.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian vowed a strong retaliatory response, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that further intensified strikes are planned.
